The brown/black/green table runner is a reflection of the forest landscape. The flying critters reflect earthy colors of the surrounding forest lands. The specific colors were inspired by friends’ impending marriage and their new set of dishes. Once I had finished this warp I felt the need to further explore this design theme. I then used similar patterning for sandstone and turquoise critters followed by another set of colors using evening’s dark blues and purples for the flyers. The 100% cotton fabric used to create the heavy part of the weft has also become matching napkins edged with decorative stitching to complete the table service (if there was enough fabric available when I finished weaving). Technically I feel I am just beginning to explore the realm of Scandinavian ripsmatta technique taught to me by Joanne Tallarovic a few years ago. She has been a great inspiration and her book an invaluable resource.
